Continuing a Tradition, Expanding a Mission:

The Story of Cunningham Pastured Meats & Cliff’s Country Market - now, the HOME of Cunningham Pastured Meats in Caldwell, Idaho

In 2010, newlyweds Sean and Liz Cunningham returned to Sean’s family ranch in the rugged high desert of Eastern Oregon, ready to carry on a century-old ranching legacy. Sean’s father had already spent decades raising cattle the natural way — grass-fed, pasture-raised, and free from hormones, antibiotics, and GMOs. Liz, new to ranch life and grass-fed beef, quickly discovered what many now know: the quality and flavor of truly pasture-raised meat is too good not to share.

Frustrated by the lack of clean, nutrient-rich beef in the Treasure Valley, Sean and Liz launched Cunningham Pastured Meats — a small, family-run business dedicated to producing meat you can trust. What started with a few freezer deliveries quickly grew into a thriving operation supplying grass-fed beef, lamb, and bison, pasture-raised pork and chicken, wild-caught seafood, and more — all raised or sourced with integrity.

Every product reflects the same core values: no hormones, no antibiotics, no GMOs, no mRNA vaccines — just clean, ethically raised meat from ranchers who care.

A Natural Next Step: Owning Cliff’s Country Market

Following the shutdowns of 2020, the Cunningham's felt a stronger calling to support food security in their community — helping families access clean, local food in uncertain times. Added to this call was the need to now fill their ever growing family of now nine!

That calling led to a significant next step: purchasing Cliff’s Country Market in Caldwell, Idaho in 2022.

Cliff’s had already been a beloved fixture in Canyon County for over 25 years. Cliff and Marilyn, the founders, built a store rooted in quality — focusing on organic, local, non-GMO, and gluten-free products long before it was popular. With their deep community ties and shared values, Sean and Liz were a natural fit to continue that legacy.

What This Means for Cunningham Pastured Meats Customers

💥 In-Store Access – Customers can now shop Cunningham Pastured Meats directly at Cliff’s — ideal for last-minute needs or restocking between orders.

📦 Pickup Location – Cliff’s now serves as a convenient pickup spot for online meat orders, especially helpful for smaller orders or those outside our delivery zones.

🚛 Home Delivery Expansion – Expansion of home delivery service has gone national, to include the vision of eventually including quality products from Cliff’s shelves, like raw milk products, and other specialty NonGMO and Organic selections.

❄️ Future Cold Storage Integration – In 2024, cold storage and packing moved to a warehouse neighboring Cliff’s for streamlined fulfillment and in-house quality control.

Halter Collars

Imagine the American West before fences. Endless grasslands stretched to the horizon, wide open and free. Livestock moved with the rhythm of the land, guided by skilled herders who understood how to work with nature—not against it. There were no steel posts, no wires, no grids—just animals, people, and a shared understanding of movement and timing. This was the original way of livestock management: intentional, responsive, and deeply in tune with the land. Fences, as we know them, are a relatively modern invention—useful, yes, but they’ve also made us more stationary and more separated from that old rhythm. At Cunningham Pastured Meats, we’ve found a way to return to those roots—while stepping into the future. We're excited to announce that we’re implementing virtual fencing through a company called Halter. Using GPS-enabled collars and gentle cues, Halter allows us to move animals exactly where we want them—no wire, no posts, no daily labor of setting up temporary fencing. Instead, we can offer fresh pasture every single day, ensuring the herd always has access to the cleanest, most nutrient-rich feed available. This also means animals no longer backtrack over soiled ground, which improves animal health, grazing efficiency, and soil vitality. What once took hours of manual fencing can now be done with a tap of a screen—giving us more time to focus on care, stewardship, and improving the land. See video of us putting collars on our cattle here<<<< Here’s what this means for you: Fresher feed = healthier animals and better quality meat.Daily movement mimics natural grazing, regenerating the land.Less stress, better welfare for the animals.Greater flexibility to adapt to weather, pasture conditions, and herd needs. This is a new chapter for us, and we’re excited to see where it leads. We’ll be learning as we go—and we’ll keep you updated as this journey with virtual fencing unfolds.
